Hamilton County, Tennessee is situated in the south east portion of the state, bordering Georgia. The central hub of the county, Chattanooga, also called the "Scenic City," is located along the shores of Lake Nickajack and Lake Chickamauga. The city lies in a valley of the Appalachian Mountains, about one hundred miles from Atlanta, Georgia.

The county of Hamilton was named for one the countrys' Founding Fathers, Alexander Hamilton. The city of Chattanooga is named for a Muskogean word  meaning "rock dwelling place." Chattanooga became known as the Dynamo of Dixie during the1930s, and the Glenn Miller Band wrote a famous song about the city called "Chattanooga Choo Choo."
